Some call it kindergarten, others call it tadika. For most Malaysians however, we call it the best days of our life. Crayons, awesome field trips, caring teachers and of course, nap time! Oh, how we miss those times.

Let’s reminisce those carefree days with these moments below that all Malaysians who went to kindergarten can confirm remember and relate to:

1. Crying on the first day of kindergarten

Well, like all great things, it all doesn’t start out that well. Being away from our parents for the first time must’ve left us in shock. So much so, that we did the only thing we were an expert at when we were kids: crying.

The tears didn’t last for long though, as once we’ve made friends with the whole class and fell in love with our teachers, going to kindergarten was something we looked forward to every day!

2. Accidentally calling the teacher mommy or daddy

Okay, some of us may have even been awestruck by our teachers a little bit too much to such an extent that we see them in the same light as our parents!

In fact, we’re pretty sure all kindergarten teachers have been called “mommy” or “papa” by their students at least once in their career 😛

3. Accidentally soiling your pants in class

Oh, how embarrassing! Chances are, you were too shy to raise your hands to tell the teacher you needed to go to the loo and you were just hoping that the feeling would eventually disappear. Well, it disappeared alright – all over your pants.

To be fair, we were only around 5 years old back then! We didn’t have the same level of control over our body’s call of nature as we do now 😀

4. Peeking at your friend’s paper when the teacher asked to write your own name down

One of the life-long skills we learnt in kindergarten is how to read and write. Writing, in particular, was a new concept for all of us back then as we only knew how to use the pencil to conteng all over our home wall 😛

That’s why when we were taught how to write our own names down, we were quite in the dark and peeked at our friends’ papers and just copied them instead. Well, at least we got to learn how to write our friends’ name!

5. Getting stars, stickers or stamps for our homework was pure bliss

Another thing that we all remembered during kindergarten was all the sense of pride and accomplishment we felt every time our teachers gave us stars for our homework!

All the effort we put into colouring that giraffe was all worth it 😛

6. Awesome field trips

Remember all the super fun field trips that our kindergartens organised and how enthusiastic we were to join them? Of course, we had to make sure that we got to sit beside our best friends on the bus ride too!

Needless to say, all of us confirm have joined a kindergarten trip to Zoo Negara right? Seeing those animals in person that we only learnt in colouring books really opened up our minds as to how amazing the world is!

7. Participating in your kindergarten’s play as random characters

OMG, who can forget the end of year show performance that we all put up for in front of our teachers and parents? Everyone was assigned random characters to play and we’re all more than happy to play them; even if we only got to play a background tree!

Our parents confirm still have pictures or videos of our performances and how cute were we in those adorable costumes? Even if we’re crying when we did the performance, it’s definitely something we will cherish for the rest of our lives!

The fact that we can still remember all of these moments really cement how awesome of a period kindergarten was in our lives. In fact, this pre-school period is the most important period in one’s childhood as it is during this time that a child’s mind develops the most!

More so when research has found that the initial foundation of the child plays the most crucial part in:

  • The child’s future progression, and;
  • Shaping the child’s overall characteristic traits.

That’s why Malaysia’s award-winning kindergarten Q-dees practises something called the “Link & Think” methodology to spark the interest of book reading into children from an early age!

Through the “Link & Think” method, Q-dees is able to:

  • Provide training for your child to make connections between their logical and creative minds.
  • Do this through fun and exciting theme-based stories and music.
  • Do so by Q-dees’ very own educational multimedia programmes.

The benefits that children can gain through this programme is that they’ll be able to integrate, link, connect and further understand words, sentences, phrases and comprehensions that was taught and learnt from this program into their daily lives and future endeavours.

Awesome! If only they had something like this when I was in kindergarten. Interested to learn more about the “Link & Think” programme? Visit Q-dees’ official website here for more details.
