A senior citizen only eats rice with salt or bread dipped in water for his meals when he could not afford to cook a proper meal. This barely-considered-food is what an elderly man in Perak eats day-to-day and he is barely scraping by.

Saat Tapah, aged 69, used to work as a fisherman and that was how he managed his financial expenses. However, he is unable to go out to the seas anymore because of old age and health problems.

Harian Metro reported that Saat lives in a run down home located in Kuala Krau, Kampung Nelayan after he had separated from his wife and child.

“After I have stopped going to the seas, I just eat what I have. A pack of rice will last me for a month. If I don’t have any side dishes with my meal, I just eat rice with salt,” said Saat via Harian Metro.

Saat further added that he borrows RM5 from his friends to buy bread when he runs out of money.

In the midst of Movement Control Order (MCO), Saat has been only been eating three slices of bread dipped in water for his breakfast, lunch and dinner. The hardships that this man is facing is truly heartbreaking.

Fortunately, a good samaritan has decided to help elevate Saat’s struggles. The Chairman Of Parit Buntar Association, Md Nayan Saleh has provided Saat with cash money and food necessities during a personal meet-up with Saat at his home.

It was Saat’s relative (who wishes to remain unnamed) that frequently reaches out to the community seeking help for him.

Prior to this, Saat was married and he had a child. However, he is now divorced and estranged from his child. He stated that his child had ran away at the age of 16 and is believed to be residing in Ipoh currently.

Md Nayan expressed that he was heartbroken when he saw the living conditions of Saat and he aims to help people who are in similar situations. It’s truly heartbreaking to see someone suffering as how Saat did. We can also help out our members of the community in their times of need by doing what we can. A little act of kindness goes a long way.
