Six Islamic school students from Sekolah Menengah Imtiaz Yayasan Terengganu Kuala Berang in Kuala Berang, Terengganu, made Malaysians proud recently after they won the gold medal and two other prizes at the International Innovative Technology Summit (IITS) 2024 held at The China Millenium Monument in Beijing, China.
The students won the gold medal for their learning tool innovation, namely the Virtual Geo Learning (VIGEEL) and The Repeater (Quranic Apps). Moreover, VIGEEL also won the Special Award (Outstanding Teamwork Award), while The Repeater also won the 1st Runner-Up Award at the competition.

In a Facebook post, the school revealed that the competition was held from 7 to 11 November 2024 and shared several photos of the students showcasing their work during the summit.
As reported by BERNAMA, accompanying teacher Nurul Fatiha Mohd Ramli shared that VIGEEL utilises virtual reality (VR) technology and augmented reality (AR).
The app focuses on the transportation topic in Form 2 Geography and allows students to see and experience transportation systems alongside pop-up notes for learning. It even allows students to virtually experience transportation modes such as LRT and aeroplanes.
Meanwhile, The Repeater is an application to store students’ Quran memorisation that also functions as a reminder for them to recite verses before memorising them.

VIGEEL was developed by Form 2, 3 and 4 students, while The Repeater was developed by Form 4 students.
The VIGEEL team include students Muhammad Faiz bin Zubairy, Muhammad Alif Irfan bin Mohd Yuzi and Ahmad Khalis Afif bin Kamaurzaman. The team is also accompanied by teachers Nurul Fatiha and Noorul Aisyah.
As for The Repeater, team members include students Muhammad Naqibuddin bin Najmi Yani, Ahmad Syahmi bin Mohd Sukri and Ahmad Daniel bin Ahmad Shukri. They were accompanied by teachers Ustaz Mohd Safwan and Ustaz Muhamad Aminuddin.
Coming home to a hero’s welcome
In a separate Facebook post, the school shared how both teams returned to a hero’s welcome at Terminal 2, KLIA, on 13 November.
