A recent incident has taken the internet by storm after six retail employees in Penang accused their employer of wrongfully alleging theft without providing proof.

In a series of posts on his Threads account @firdausx00, Firdaus claimed that he and five coworkers were laid off without notice, had their salaries withheld, and were pressured to pay RM11,000 each in “compensation.”

Workers allegedly threatened over missing stock worth RM60,000

Firdaus further alleged that the company threatened to call the police to arrest them at their homes if the RM11,000 was not paid. This prompted the group to lodge police reports.

“2026 has been a heavy test for us. The company did not pay our salaries. All of us were accused of stealing without evidence and were fired without notice,” the post read.

“They even sent messages to our families demanding payment and threatening us with arrest. When we asked for proof of the theft, they refused to provide any.”

In a separate post, Firdaus also shared screenshots of conversations where the workers demanded to know why they had been removed from work group chats, questioning whether they had been terminated.

Another worker, @nvfrzza, claimed that since the issue went viral, other former employees of the same company have come forward with similar allegations.

“I was prevented from leaving from 9:30 AM until 10 PM”

Meanwhile, Firdaus claimed that the outlet’s Person-In-Charge (PIC) was “restrained” at the company’s office during the ordeal.

According to the PIC’s police statement, he was confronted over missing inventory estimated to be worth over RM66,000 and was also pressured to pay RM11,000.

“I was told to sit in a room from 9:30 AM until 10 PM. I wasn’t allowed to go to the bathroom and wasn’t given food or drinks. I only managed to leave after friends helped me transfer the money to the company’s bank account,” the statement read.

The PIC added that he was verbally terminated without written notice or an opportunity to sign termination documents. He also claimed he did not receive his January 2026 salary of RM1,500.

“We are currently conducting an internal review”

In response to the viral allegations, the retail company released a statement clarifying that an internal review is underway following a stock audit that revealed significant inventory discrepancies.

“The missing items represent a significant quantity, with a total value exceeding RM60,000. Following this discovery, the staff members involved did not report for duty and failed to submit formal resignations or provide notice in line with company policy,” the statement said.

The management claimed they made multiple unsuccessful attempts to contact the individuals. The company also stated it reserves the right to take legal action against any defamatory statements that may harm its reputation.

Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Firdaus shared that he and the others have gone to the Labour Department (JTK) and are currently awaiting a scheduled date to discuss the matter with the company.
