If you have an office job and your own desk in the office, this one is for you!
Having a desk or workplace that feels like your own can be extremely fun and welcoming. It makes sense for these workstations to be comfortable because we spend such a significant portion of our day at work.
One way to accomplish this level of comfort at work stations, specifically work desks, is to add functional and aesthetically-pleasing items that reflect our personalities.
So, here are 5 office desk must-have items you might consider adding to your desk!
1. A water bottle/vacuum-insulated mug
First up on the list is a trusty water bottle, a vacuum-insulated mug, or anything that can hold a decent amount of liquid.
A trusty water bottle is necessary because nobody wants to be dehydrated. We would also recommend getting one that holds at least 500ml of water because ain’t nobody got time to keep walking to and from the pantry.
If you are the type of person that is able to sip on one cup of coffee for hours, treat yourself to a vacuum-insulated mug. You will not have to worry about your drinks turning lukewarm because they will stay hot or cold for hours!
2. Fragrance
Next up is fragrance. You cannot go wrong with a diffuser or bottle of perfume unless your colleagues are not fans of the scents.
But if you and your colleagues are besties, a diffuser is perfect! The scent from a diffuser is rarely overpowering as it is much more subtle and long-lasting.
If you have plenty of desk space and power plugs, you may consider an electric diffuser.
But if that is not an option, reed diffusers and lava rock diffusers are great as they are flame free. They look super cute too!
Additionally, you may want to keep a small bottle of perfume on your desk for days when you have to work late, then rush out for dinner plans.
3. Novelty items
Now, this is where your personality will shine!
Some might say that novelty items such as figurines, ornaments and knick-knacks are nice-to-haves, not must-haves. We beg to differ.
Having your favourite action figures, coasters, mini succulents, trinket trays, small sculptures, and more on your desk can create a sense of permanence, motivating us to do better at our jobs.
Little accessories like those mentioned above may also help boost our mood in general, making for a more productive and contented work life.
4. Snacks
Most offices these days will have a pantry for employees. Some are bigger than others, but it is always the Hunger Games (at least here at WORLD OF BUZZ); and trust us, you do not want to be a participant.
So, while we are all for milking work for its free food, sometimes it would be easier to just have our own supply of instant beverages and snacks.
Our personal favourite snacks to bring to the office are instant drinks sachets, biscuits of your choice, some fruits (for their fibre content), some trail mix, yoghurt and chocolate.
5. Organisers
At first thought, organisers seem to make sense only for people who use a lot of stationeries while working. For example, paper organisers and pen holders are great for keeping the desk neat.
However, on second thought, organisers can also be pretty cute for those who only need their laptops to work.
These organisers can be used to place said diffusers, perfumes, knick-knacks, keys, access cards, and so much more!
And again, depending on the kind of organisers you choose, they can reflect our personalities.
Bonus: Jacket!
Technically, a jacket is not something you put on your desk. Still, we think it is an office must-have, especially when your office is constantly blasting the air conditioner.
Although the primary purpose of your jacket, sweater, hoodie or scarf should be to keep you warm, these pieces of clothing that one chooses to keep slung on the back of their chairs usually say a lot about someone.
The girl with an old sports jacket is probably having trouble moving on from her days of doing sports, and the guy with a denim jacket covered with embroidered patches probably has a thing for flashy items and attention.
Regardless, something to keep you warm is never a bad idea.
While the list contains only 5-6 items, they are all very customisable in design and quantity. At the end of the day, what makes you feel most comfortable will work the best.
