The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has arrested a 36-year-old Malaysian man after he physically assaulted his elderly mother using a steering lock at their home in Ampang Jaya, Selangor.
In a press release by the Ampang Jaya Police District Chief ACP Mohd Azam bin Ismail, the incident took place at 12.30am on Tuesday (20 February) while the victim, a 74-year-old woman was sleeping.
The elderly mother suffered serious injuries
As a result of the assault, the victim broke two of her front teeth and suffered bleeding on her head. Moreover, the victim’s 3rd child was also assaulted while trying to break off the attack.
The 74-year-old victim then reported the perpetrator, her own unemployed son, to the police. Acting on the report, the Ampang Jaya District Police arrested the 36-year-old suspect of Chinese descent.
Dissatisfied with the placement of a shoe cabinet
Initial investigation by the police found that the suspect assaulted his own mother because he was dissatisfied with a shoe cabinet placement in their home which blocked the entrance path to his room.
The police also conducted a urine test on the suspect and found that he was negative for any illegal substance.
May face up to 20 years in jail and a fine or whipping
The case is currently being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means.
Under the provision above, any individual convicted of an offence may face imprisonment of up to 20 years and a fine or whipping.
Furthermore, given that the suspect is 36 years old, should he be sentenced to whipping, he won’t be exempted from the punishment as he’s a male and not over 50 years of age. This is prescribed under Section 289 of the Criminal Procedure Code below.
