We’d all love to earn money the quick way, but more often than not, these quick ways are also the wrong ways! These three men definitely had the quick way in mind as they were caught trying to hack into an ATM machine in Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur!

How did they do it? According to China Press, the suspects waited for the coast to clear at the ATM machine, then they discreetly installed a scanner and mini camcorder. Afterwards, they waited in hiding for an ATM customer to come along, following which they would manoeuvre the devices with a remote control to steal the customer’s banking details. Finally, they hacked into the ATM machine’s system to steal said customer’s money!

A passerby first suspected something amiss around 9.30pm on February 18, when he noticed the ATM machine was fitted with suspicious-looking devices, according to China Press. He immediately reported it to police nearby, who rushed on the scene to dismantle the said devices. Not long after, they managed to nab three suspects, who were found not too far away from the ATM machine. Looks like even though they were devious enough to install those devices, they weren’t smart enough to evade capture!

On them, police found a debit and credit card scanner component, as well as another camcorder, which were then seized to further the investigation. They will also be looking into CCTV footage to find out when and how the suspects set up the devices.

It is understood that the suspects are aged between 30 and 48, and have been detained at the Dang Wangi police station. One of the men already has criminal records prior to this incident.

If it hasn’t been clear enough before, we’ll say it once again: crime does not pay! We truly hope no one’s account balance was severely affected by this, and if there are any, that the money can be returned to them ASAP!
