Earlier today, it was reported that the Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) had called for action to be taken against a popular local radio station following a viral video of the radio station’s announcers and staff mocking Hinduism.

Now, it has been announced that 3 of the radio station’s announcers have been suspended from air until further notice, pending an internal investigation by Astro into this incident.

According to a report by BERNAMA, Astro Audio shared that they are taking this matter seriously and expressed their regret over the video, which involved ERA FM presenters Nabil Ahmad, Azad Jasmin, and Radin.

“We are working closely with the authorities to ensure full compliance with all guidelines and requirements that have been set,” Astro Audio explained.

Additionally, they shared their commitment to maintaining the trust of listeners as well as ensuring a respectful and inclusive media environment.

In order to do so, they are taking steps to strengthen their content review process to ensure that programs produced reflect the values and expectations of their audiences.

Prior to this, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said that the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) had been ordered to conduct a detailed investigation into the actions of the radio station staff.

This included calling Astro and the radio station’s management to appear at the MCMC headquarters to provide a full explanation.
