When the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) was implemented, the authorities slowly reopened recreational places under certain conditions including ensuring to wear a face mask and avoiding crowds.

But for popular hiking destination, Broga Hill, the reopening didn’t last long as it was ordered to close again after hikers didn’t meet the new normal criteria.

Well, it seems that there are some hikers who are still adamant on hiking at the trail and have since been arrested by the authorities for violating RMCO standard operating procedures (SOPs). Why so stubborn?

Broga 2

As according to the Info Roadblock JPJ/POLIS Facebook page, the IPD Kajang Ops Covid-19 Monitoring team, with the help of the RMCO monitoring MPV patrol unit, have remanded 28 people for carrying out hiking activities at Broga Hill. They’ve been taken to the Semenyih police station for further action.

Broga 4

Two out of the group have been arrested under Section 269 of the Penal Code/22(b) APPPB 1988 and the other 26 were given compounds on actions against Section 18 Rule 10/11 Act 10/11 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases 1988.

The authorities have since asked the general public to avoid hiking at Broga Hill for the time being as the location is still closed from the public and will most likely remain closed as long as people continue to break RMCO SOPs.

We urge everyone to cooperate with the authorities and adhere to the SOPs so that we can prevent another wave of the Covid-19 virus from happening and we can sooner (than later) go back to living our lives.

Stay tuned for more updates.
