A 25-year-old Malaysian man lost his life while holidaying in Thailand after falling from the balcony of his 4th-floor hotel room in Patong, Phuket.

The incident took place at around 1.30am on Friday (9 May), with the man succumbing to his injuries shortly after being admitted to the Patong Hospital.

According to The Thaiger, which sourced a report by the Thai-language news portal The Phuket News, the victim arrived in Thailand just a day prior to his death, and was part of a tour group consisting of 20 Malaysians.

Furthermore, the man was sharing a hotel room with 3 friends at the hotel in Patong, one of the most popular tourist hotspots on the Thai island.

The report quoted Police Lieutenant Chanarong Prakongkeo, the investigation officer from Patong Police Station, as saying that the local police rushed to the hospital and the scene of the fall after receiving a distress call on the incident.

Moreover, the victim’s friend reportedly told investigators that the man was “behaving erratically” before the fatal fall.

The witness asserted,

“He ran out of the room, climbed over the balcony at the back of the hotel, and jumped,”

The report added that the man survived the initial fall and landed on the balcony of an adjacent building. However, he then jumped again, falling to the ground below and sustaining critical injuries.

Afterwards, the victim was rushed to the Patong Hospital via ambulance but succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.

The local police said that there are no signs of foul play, but the victim’s alleged erratic behaviour before his fall has prompted deeper scrutiny.
