A couple was caught for khalwat (close proximity) after religious officers raided a rented room in Kedah yesterday (20 November).

During the inspection at around 9:50 AM, the 23-year-old man was spotted wearing a nightdress with a Doraemon print on it while inside the room with his 16-year-old girlfriend.

The couple admitted that they were not married

Kulim District Religious Enforcement Officer Anwar Sharifudin Mat Saad was quoted by Sinar Harian as saying that the former factory worker was caught committing khalwat with his girlfriend, who reportedly works at a snooker centre.

Anwar added that the man claimed he was just staying over after dropping his girlfriend off at work.

“The teenage girl reportedly started working three months ago and was renting the room with her boyfriend’s younger sister, who also works at the same place. During questioning, they admitted they were not married. At the time of the arrest, the teenage girl was wearing a ‘baju kelawar’ shirt and her boyfriend was wearing a cartoon-printed nightgown,” he said.

The man was found on the bed during the raid

Anwar also said that during the raid, it took about a minute to open the door, and they found the man on the bed.

They also discovered that the man’s younger brother was staying in a separate rented room in the same building.

The case is being investigated under Section 25 (a) and (b) of the Kedah Syariah Criminal Offences Enactment (EKJSK) 2014 for alleged khalwat.
