A 23-year-old man has lost RM9,000 after being blackmailed over nude video by woman he met on dating app.

Gombak District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Noor Ariffin Mohamad Nasir, said the victim lodged a report at the Batu Caves Police Station last Wednesday.

“The man stated that he met a woman through the dating app Tantan. They exchanged phone numbers and continued communicating via WeChat,” he said in a statement today.

The suspect then showed interest and initiated a video call with the victim, during which both were asked to remove their clothes.

After the call, the suspect sent threatening messages via WhatsApp, warning that she would distribute the nude video recording if the victim refused to pay a sum of money.

“The victim eventually made two payments to the suspect through a digital bank account that is approved by Bank Negara,” he added.

Investigations are now underway to identify the owner of the digital bank account and the phone number used to contact the victim.
