A female student from Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) has died after being involved in an accident involving two buses in front of the bus stop near Jalan Persiaran Perdana, UUM on Saturday (April 19).
Manarina Hasya Muhamad Karim, 22, who sustained injuries to her body, was confirmed dead after nearly 10 hours of treatment at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital.
Kubang Pasu District Police Chief, Supt Mohd Radzi Abdul Rahim, said the incident occurred around 8:45 am when a 37-year-old male bus driver was stopping in front of the bus stop to pick up passengers before being hit from behind by another bus driven by a 32-year-old man.
“The impact of the collision caused the bus in front to slide forward and hit the road barrier before crushing the victim who was walking and waiting for her turn to board the bus.”
“As a result of the accident, the victim, who was from Johor Bahru, was sent to the hospital before being confirmed dead during treatment. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said in a statement.
