Hong Kong model Abby Choi’s murder is a prime example that shows anyone can be your murderer when things don’t go their way. A recent grad student from Illinois, USA was found dead after being pushed down the ravine by an American man who sexually assaulted her.
The victim, Eva Liu was only 21 years old.
Eva visited the Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany with her classmate, Kelsey, who was also a victim of the assault. New York Post reported that the American man was staying at the same hotel as both women, where he tried to lure them to a trail. There, he physically attacked Eva and Kelsey tried to help but got pushed off the side of the steep cliff.
The man then continued to sexually assault Eva before throwing her down. Kelsey miraculously survived after a tree stopped her from plunging all the way into the bottom of the ravine. Eva, unfortunately, did not make it. She was airlifted to the hospital and was pronounced dead the day after. She fell 165 feet deep down into the ravine.
A bridge near the castle, which draws a total of 1.4 million visitors each year, was temporarily closed due to the incident. Eva and Kelsey graduated from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) last month.
The assault took place last Wednesday (14 June) and the man has since been arrested by the police in Germany, who treated the case as murder, attempted murder, and sexual offense.
According to a report by Mirror UK, the man convinced Eva and Kelsey to accompany him to a lookout point, where the pair was assaulted. At the time of writing, Kelsey is still recovering in the hospital.
It’s heartbreaking that what should have been a vacation and a celebration of graduation ended up in a tragedy. We hope that Kelsey recovers soon, and justice will prevail for Eva.
