Yesterday (3 November), it was reported that a Malaysian man donning a Traffic Police Department (JSPT) t-shirt to pose as a Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) officer, as well as the man’s friend, tried to extort RM300 from a rider on the basis that the rider had illegally modified his bike.
They were both later arrested.

Now, for impersonating traffic police officers, the 2 men each received a fine of RM5,000 by the Magistrate’s Court in Ipoh, Perak, today (4 November).
According to a report by Kosmo!, both accused, 24-year-old Wong Jiun Wei and 40-year-old Lim Boon Ping, will face a 12-month jail sentence if they fail to pay the fine.
Based on the charge, they are accused of impersonating traffic police officers and deceiving 2 teenagers, aged 15 and 17 respectively, by asking for money or they would take them to a police station.

This act was committed in front of a restaurant at Jalan Lebuh Bercham Selatan 1, Taman Ipoh Timur Baru, Ipoh, at 12:38 AM on Saturday (1 November).
Both accused pleaded for a lower fine amount
Defence lawyer, K. Nathan, who represented both accused, requested a fine of a reasonable amount.
“The first accused, Jiun Wei, works as an electrician, while Boon Ping is a restaurant assistant with a monthly income of RM1,500. Both of them apologised and have repented and promised not to repeat the same offences,” he said.
