Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim guaranteed that the price of RON95 petrol will not increase, despite previous discussions about a potential hike.

PMX stated that he disagrees with the suggestion to raise the petrol price, which has been maintained at RM2.05 per liter. However, he hinted at the possibility of a gradual reduction in the price of RON95, depending on market conditions.

“However, it is the petrol price for the four million foreigners in this country that needs to be increased. Foreigners enjoy RM3 to RM4 billion in subsidies.”

PMX also highlighted the potential requirement for individuals to present their identification cards (ICs) when purchasing RON95 petrol.

He added that no country in the world provides petrol subsidies to the super-rich, including those who own fleets of luxury vehicles.

“There is no country that subsidises petrol for those who own a Rolls-Royce, especially the top five percent of the richest people in this country.”

“However, this five percent group is asking us to protect their interests so they can continue enjoying petrol subsidies,” PMX said at the PKR National Congress 2025 yesterday (May 24).

PMX also assured that the government would review gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG) subsidies, and address related issues. Additionally, he called for a review of the e-Invoice system, as reported by Berita Harian.

“We will study the e-Invoice. It is very important for the country not to lose revenue,” he said.

What do you think of his take on this matter?
