Buying a house is the ultimate goal for the average millennial. Most of us have an idea of what we want our house to look like in the future, however, we know that we would have to buy one within our budget.

In a UTAR confession post, a Malaysian shared her annoyance on how her boyfriend really wants a double-storey house but would not pay more for it.

“I’ve been dating my boyfriend for 3 years and we’re planning to buy a house. My salary is RM3,000 and his salary is RM4,000. Through this argument that we had, I found out that he is really calculative and doesn’t know how to think.”

The confessor then put her conversation between her and her boyfriend in the post.

Confessor (C): We buy a house based on our capability and one that is not too expensive. Something like a single-storey terrace house or maybe a condominium unit.

Boyfriend (BF): I don’t want either of those, I want a house with a minimum of two storeys.

C: We’ll talk about that later. It’s not like if you want it then you can get it.

BF: No matter what I want a double-storey house.

C: If you want to buy it next time then would you pay more for it?

BF: Why?

C: Because you earn more [she then did the calculations (individual salary divided by total salary then multiplied by loan) and showed him]. We estimate that we need to pay RM3,000 every month, so you will have to pay RM400 more.

BF: Why should I pay more when the house is also under your name?

C: My salary is RM3,000, and the monthly repayment will be RM1,500 and the other essential expenses such as car loans will amount to RM1,250. How do I live?

BF: That is really unfair to me. What we can do is put the house under my name and we can pay the monthly repayment together.

C: It’s okay then you buy it yourself, and I can buy mine myself when I can.

BF: I knew that you wouldn’t sacrifice for our home and our future. In the end, I’m the only one sacrificing.

C: I don’t want to talk to you anymore. According to your logic, it’s unfair to you but have you ever thought whether it’s fair to me?

BF: In conclusion, this is unfair to me.

The confessor then ends her post by asking if it is rational for him to calculate everything so clearly with her.

What’s your opinion on this situation?
