The police have confirmed that the deaths of 4 cats that were found around the University Malaya (UM) campus were not caused by human malice.
According to a report by Malaysia Gazette, KL Deputy Police Chief Datuk Azry Akmar Ayob shared that the results of the post-mortem conducted by the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) found that the cause of death was due to animal bites, believed to be from stray dogs.
“The results of the investigation and post-mortem by DVS showed that the two cat carcasses found on December 17, died from animal bites, believed to be dog attacks, with no evidence of abuse.”
“The post-mortems for the two cat carcasses found on December 20 and 25 also did not show any evidence of human abuse on either of the cat carcasses involved,” he said, adding that the cats had severe injuries to the chest, which caused bleeding in the heart.
This then allegedly led to blood loss and circulatory system failure.
Yet another cat was found dead!
In a now-expired Instagram Story, the Universiti Malaya Students’ Union (UMSU) shared a statement about yet another cat that was found mutilated at the university’s campus.
They wrote, “January 2 (Thursday), UMSU was informed of another cat which was found killed at the Faculty of Medicine. The cat’s body was extensively mutilated, exposing its internal organs.”
“For now, the security office has arrived at the scene of the incident. The UMSU student representatives of the Faculty of Medicine are also lodging a police report on the matter. UMSU will provide further updates once we receive more information.”
Animal activist demands post-mortem
Animal activist Shima Aris took to her Instagram story to share a screenshot of UMSU’s statement and called for a post-mortem to be done on the mutilated cat before its death is blamed on dogs again.
She also shared a concerning update as she alleged that the police took the cat’s body but did not immediately send it for post-mortem.
Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Shima clarified that students informed her of this.
“Latest information received (is that the) police kept the body (of the cat) at the police station instead of sending it for post mortem immediately. The body was found at around 12 pm, it is now 6:22 pm. The body and evidence would have been compromised if not frozen.”
“This is how the police and the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) handles ‘animal murderers‘. I truly hope you froze the poor, dead cat!”
Shima also clarified that she saw pictures of the mutilated cat and did not believe that dogs were involved.
