A shocking incident took place yesterday (5 February) when a foreign worker fell through the roof of a house in Ampang, Selangor, narrowly missing a sleeping 4-year-old child.

The details were shared by the child’s mother on Threads and have since gone viral. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.

The worker allegedly stepped on the roof without permission

MYNEWSHUB quoted the mother as saying that her child was sleeping in the room when the accident happened. She claimed to have heard noises from the roof repair and painting work since early that morning.

“I was really shocked. Suddenly, I heard a loud bang and saw the male worker hanging from the edge of the roof. Roof debris fell and scattered everywhere while my child was sleeping right there,” she stated.

It is understood that the worker was carrying out repairs on a neighbouring house and had stepped onto the victim’s roof without permission. The houses, which are about 40 years old, are believed to have fragile roof structures unsuitable for weight-bearing without proper safety measures.

The mother explained that the neighbour had neither asked for permission nor provided any notice regarding the work.

“If you want to do work on someone’s roof, you have to ask for permission first. You can’t just walk on someone else’s property,” she added.

Damages and compensation

The fall left a hole in the roof and covered the room below in dust and debris, requiring extensive cleaning.

The worker involved apologised and admitted to the mistake. Meanwhile, the mother stated that she will seek compensation for the damages and the significant inconvenience caused.
