As Malaysians, we sure do love our sports! Sports watching culture is so widespread in Malaysia, that all of us either flock to the nearest mamak or tune in right at home to watch our favourite athletes, or sports teams ranging from football to badminton to athletics!

And the year 2022 is going to be a major year for Malaysian sports fans as we have a number of major sporting events to look forward to in the near future!

1. FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022

Fifa World Cup

Although our national team may not have made it to this year’s World Cup, it is undoubtedly a big year for football fans who will tune in to support their favourite footballing nations as they compete in this year’s biggest football event!

The FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 will be featuring 32 nations and is scheduled to take place in Qatar from 21 November to 18 December 2022 and will be the first ever World Cup ever to be held in the Arab world!

Additionally, due to Qatar’s intense summer heat, this World Cup will be held from late November to mid December, making it the first tournament not to be held in May, June, or July.

2. Southeast Asian Games 2022

Sea Games

Another massive event that we can look forward to is the 2021 Southeast Asian Games also known as the 31st SEA Games which will be held in Hanoi, Vietnam in 2022.

Originally scheduled to take place from 21 November to 2 December 2021, it was moved to 12 to 23 May 2022 as a result of the unavoidable pandemic. 40 different sports will be on show with 11 South-East Asian nations (Malaysia included!) fighting to claim the most medals.

3. 2022 Asian Games
Asian

The multi-sports event, 2022 Asian Games, will be held this year in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China from 10 to 25 September 2022.

The programme will have 44 nations taking part and be made up of 46 sports and feature the full introduction of esports as well as breakdancing into a major sporting event.
