It looks like we’ve got to be more careful and aware of our surroundings wherever we go these days. It’s sad how snatch thefts are still a rather common occurrence in Malaysia and recently, a Chinese tourist got robbed while she was walking near the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) along Jalan Ampang.

According to The Star, the tourist who is 63 years old was walking along Jalan Ampang at around 3pm on Friday (March 1) with her friend. Suddenly, a man on a motorcycle weaved his way through the traffic over to them without the tourists realising that he was targeting them.

Sadly, you can guess what happened next! The man on the motorcycle got closer to the tourists and with a hard yank, he managed to get her handbag and fled quickly on his vehicle. However, the yank caused the surprised woman to fall down and hurt herself badly.

Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Shaharuddin Abdullah said, “The woman fell hard on the pavement due to the incident and suffered injuries to her head and face. She was rushed to Hospital Kuala Lumpur for treatment.” A police report was lodged by the tourist’s friend after the incident but unfortunately, they did not manage to identify the black Yamaha motorcycle’s license plate or the thief’s face as he was wearing a full-face helmet.

It was reported that the valuables in her handbag contained her passport, wallet, house keys and about 400 yuan (RM240). Currently, the police are investigating the incident and reviewing CCTV footage around the area to identify possible suspects. The case will be investigated under Section 394 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt while committing a robbery.

Hopefully, the victim will get well soon and the police can apprehend the suspect so that he can be properly punished.
