A disabled man and his family are currently calling out a local kopitiam chain after the disabled man had been injured at one of their branches in Bukit Tinggi, Klang.

Taking to his Facebook page, the disabled man who has an amputated leg and uses a cane to walk, Jackie Lee, shared the incident in the writing of his daughter, where he had allegedly gotten injured after slipping on the wet floor of the eatery as there were no ‘wet floor’ signs present.

This incident took place in September of last year, but they are sharing it online now as the eatery has allegedly refused to take responsibility for the incident.

His daughter wrote, “My father, Uncle Lee, is a good and responsible father. On that day (September 27, 2024), after we had finished lunch, my father suddenly fell. We were very scared and immediately called for help as he is an old man and my father is disabled. Falling would not only cause injuries as things may be more serious.”

“After helping my father up, we saw a large pool of water on the ground. It was a big pool of water. Such a large pool of water, and they didn’t even put up a sign to be careful. There is CCTV video as evidence of this. That’s why my father slipped.”

The aftermath of the fall

They immediately brought Uncle Lee to a hospital for a check-up, and the doctor confirmed that there were no serious injuries.

However, a radiology report showed that he suffered from an l1 vertebrae compression fracture, and a video showed that he had to wear a brace to protect his waist.

“Afterwards, we immediately asked the person in charge of the store why they didn’t put up a (wet floor) sign at the time. This was really dangerous. We just want to get justice. They mopped the floor, but there was no ‘caution, slippery floor‘ signage,”

“Can they just let go and not be responsible for our losses when a disabled and elderly person fell?”

Due to this, a police report was made, where it was stated that Uncle Lee experienced back pains following the fall and that the report was made to claim the eatery’s insurance.

Whose fault is it?

His daughter went on to explain that the eatery refused to take responsibility for the incident, so much so that it has been an ongoing issue for around 6 months now.

“To me, their reaction was the most ridiculous. They didn’t care at all and were unwilling to bear any losses. They even acted as if they didn’t care. We have also sought a lot of help from outside parties, but we still can’t get a response from the restaurant,”

“My father slipped and fell, and we just want to get justice. This matter has been going on for almost half a year! It’s been half a year! How can these people be so inhumane?” they added.

WORLD OF BUZZ has since reached out to the kopitiam chain for comment but has yet to hear back.
