Just when you thought you know your buddy really well after more than 20 years of friendship, it turns out that you don’t after all. Especially if you add drugs into the mix.
Just recently, a man who was wheelchair-bound fell to his death after his paranoid friend trapped him in his home for almost 19 hours. According to Straits Times, 62-year-old Khiong Lam Swee was forcibly detained by his friend, 57-year-old drug offender Ho Chin Hin in his third-storey Eunos Crescent flat.
Apparently, Ho had detained his friend as he was convinced that Khiong had betrayed him by informing the authorities about his drug activities and was determined to get the truth out of him. Ho was actually arrested last year on May 5 for drug-related activities but was released on bail.
This arrest didn’t scare him because 12 days later, Ho and Khiong decided to meet at Eunos Crescent Market and Food Centre to consume heroin in the toilet. On that same day, Ho decided that it was Khiong who had been the informant, which had caused him to be arrested so he took him back to his flat.
Once the duo were in the flat, Ho started accusing Khiong of tattling on him to the police, which he vehemently denied. It seems that their 22 years of friendship did not manage to convince Ho and he decided to keep Khiong confined in the flat until he told “the truth”. Eh bro, 22 years you still don’t trust your friend?
The disabled man had no choice but to stay there until 10 hours later when Ho’s younger brother came home and helped Khiong by pushing him out of the flat in his wheelchair. Just when Khiong thought he could escape, Ho came running out and pulled Khiong back into the flat.
At around 5am the next morning, Khiong tried to ask the brother for help again but he refused, as he didn’t want to interfere in Ho’s affairs. Desperate to escape, the trapped man abandoned his wheelchair and tried to climb out through the window.
At 9.40am, Ho heard a loud thud and awoke in shock. He rushed outside and saw the wheelchair near the opened window. Ho ran downstairs and found his longtime friend lying on the ground. Sadly, Khiong succumbed to multiple injuries three hours after arriving at the hospital.
Ho was arrested and sentenced to nine months jail yesterday after entering a guilty plea for the charge of wrongful confinement. He was previously sentenced to five years and three months for his drug-related offences and will serve the nine months in addition to the previous sentence.
Remember guys, don’t do drugs!
