For your daily dose of stories that’ll make you cry, today we have YB Hannah Yeoh’s touching Instagram post about her meeting with an 8-year-old athlete from Sabah.
Adszraa Adhawiyah Binti Mohd Aszrul, who Hannah calls a “little warrior” is a traditional archer. The two of them met after Adszraa’s teacher put in a request with Hannah’s team for her to visit their training place in Darau.
Although the request was made quite last minute, 24 hours before Hannah’s arrival, her team managed to rearrange her schedule to accommodate the meeting and it looks like it was worth it!
A heartwarming meeting
“From the moment I arrived, she stood close to me and tried her best to explain traditional archery to me,” said the Youth and Sports Minister. She added that, “for an 8 year old, (Adszraa) is extremely confident and engaging“.
In the photos Hannah shared, little Adszraa is proudly wearing her traditional Dusun costume and sunduk (a headscarf Dusun women wear to protect their heads from the Sun). She can be seen showing Hannah how to use the bow and arrow, her face determined.
“As I was leaving and said goodbye to her, she spontaneously gave me a big strong hug and I told her I want to see her as a world champion one day. Felt a lump in my throat as I walked to my car ?”
As Hannah closed of her post, she wrote, “This is the privilege and honor of having executive powers in Putrajaya – to improve the lives of the people of this land“.
“I will never take a day for granted. Despite being in a new portfolio, I thank God everyday for the opportunity to still be able to work with my passion – the children of Malaysia.
Ok, whoever’s cutting onions better stop now.
Netizens share their hopes
In the comments, netizens praised Hannah for her excellent work, saying that she has struck the “perfect balance of feminine motherliness and hard hitting politician“.
Malaysian independent journalist Ushar Daniele also shared the moment on her Twitter account, calling it “iconic”.
“She’s only 8 and I hope KBS will provide the right assistance for her to make Malaysia and Sabah proud one day.”
Such powerful words from YB. All the best to both Hannah and Adzsraa!
