Now that we’re about to enter the second year of the pandemic, it’s only understandable that we’ve grown used to attending virtual events instead of live festivals and concerts. It might not feel the same as experiencing the vibe and music in person, but it’s what we have to do to get past Covid-19.
Artistes are also doing their level best to innovate and showcase their music to their global audiences online.
WORLD OF BUZZ had the privilege of speaking to internationally renowned Dutch DJ duo, W&W following their stellar set at the recent online Heineken Starclub NYE Live countdown event over New Years, to check up on how they’ve been elevating their performances for the virtual world.
It’s no secret that you guys have performed (and brought the house down) in Malaysia in the past. What’s the one thing you miss most about Malaysia?
For sure the crowd, Malaysia has always been one of our favorite places to play, it’s also one of the first countries in Asia where we played so it has a special place in our hearts. But we also can’t resist the Malaysian food!
It’s understandable that artistes sometimes find it difficult to engage with their audience now that performances are conducted virtually. Is there anything you guys have done differently for the virtual Heineken Starclub NYE Live countdown event?
It’s not comparable with playing in real life for people but times like these ask for creative solutions and I think this is a very good one. We played a lot of new music including our latest single, Gold.
2020 was a difficult year for everyone, but we’re thankful to be alive. What’s the one thing you guys are most thankful for?
The last 10 years have really been a roller coaster. We barely had time for anything else other than live shows. Now, we have some time to think about what we want and sort a lot of stuff out. Without everything that happened, we would probably still be on that roller coaster.
2020 also marks the beginning of a new decade. What can your fans expect from you guys in this new decade?
We’ll just try to continue making music that we like, and hopefully, people will like it too. Everything we do comes from loving what we do. That has always been like that and we don’t plan on changing that. We’ll be releasing a lot of music, Rave Culture will continue to push new talent and of course, the regular names that are already on the label.
Your Malaysian fans miss you! Are you guys planning any potential shows in Malaysia again? And if yes, could you give us a little hint as to when?
As soon as we can come, we’ll be there!!!
Do you have any special messages to your Malaysian fans who tuned into the Heineken Starclub NYE Live countdown event?
Thank you so much for celebrating NYE with us and we hope to see you soon again in real life!!!
And there you have it, folks.
The Heineken Starclub NYE Live countdown event was truly a refreshing look into how virtual events can be held while still giving remote audiences a lively and exciting show.
A special thank you, to the team behind the Heineken Starclub NYE Live countdown event for the amazing opportunity!
Let’s all continue to stay at home as our frontliners battle the Covid-19 virus, and with everyone’s cooperation, we’ll be able to; one day, rave once again like there’s no tomorrow.
