By now, Malaysians are well aware of the fuel price reduction, which is expected to come into effect by the end of September this year.

RON95 will be sold at RM1.99 per litre, a 6 sen reduction from the current price, which the Prime Minister confirmed is only eligible for Malaysians.

Over time, we have seen many incidents involving foreigners misusing the subsidised RON95 petrol, which is only meant for Malaysian citizens. Following PMX’s announcement, which also came with a one-off RM100 cash aid,  a social media user on X posted a meme, implying Singaporeans’ possible reaction if MyKad is needed for verification before using the lower fuel price.

An alleged Singaporean responds

A social media user, believed to be a Singaporean, commented on the X post, explaining why Malaysia “is still far behind” its neighbouring country, and it’s because we refuse to share the petrol.

The user said that many Singaporeans have been providing Malaysians with jobs over the years, but Malaysians are too “greedy” to share the RON95 petrol with Singaporeans.

Netizens retaliate

Meanwhile, other netizens were not fond of what the user had to say about Malaysians and the subsidised petrol. Some Malaysians defended their rights to utilise the lower-priced fuel, while others shared their take on Malaysians working in Singapore, dubbing it “low headcount in Singapore.”

“That’s shameless of you to use the subsidised petrol which is meant for Malaysians. Cars are expensive in Singapore, but many drivers there are stingy in real life.

Similarly, many politicians, especially those from the opposition, were also not happy with what PMX announced recently, with many calling it “nothing much” and one of them also said that the previous government, in which Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was the PM, handled the crisis better. They also claimed that PMX’s special announcement was a decision made at the 11th hour to calm angry Malaysians.

Regardless, the ‘Turun Anwar’ rally that is scheduled tomorrow (July 26) is still ongoing. If you’re attending, do follow the rules, and PDRM will be at the scene to ensure the smooth running of the event, as well as your safety.
