A 2-year-old girl tragically died after drowning in a water basin of her babysitter’s house in Batu Maung yesterday, 2 March.
The child was identified as Sophia Fatehah Wan Farhan Danial.
According to Oriental Daily, the incident happened at 12pm and the deceased has been identified as Sophia Fatehah Wan Farhan Danial.
The father of the 2-year-old, Wan Farhan, 26, said that he did not blame the babysitter as it was a test given by God.
He also added on to say that the deceased was his second daughter. The eldest daughter, who was 3 years old, was also taken care of by the same babysitter for a total of 6 months.
“This babysitter is very attentive, so when our second daughter was born, we decided to put her in the care of the babysitter for two years. Once when my daughter only had a slight fever, the babysitter notified us immediately,” Wan Farhan said.
According to Wan Farhan, he said he received a call from the babysitter yesterday, saying that his daughter had been sent to the hospital after showing signs of drowning.
He explained that the babysitter told him what had happened by saying that she took Sophia to clean her up by bathing her in a basin.
“The babysitter went to get a towel afterwards, and when she came back, she saw signs of drowning in my daughter, and immediately took her to the hospital,” he said.
As reported by Harian Metro, the victim’s body was taken to Penang Hospital (HPP) for autopsy.
The Southwest District Police Chief, Superintendent AA Anbalagan, confirmed that the police had received this report.
Our sincerest condolences to the family of Sophia. May she rest in peace.
