Taking to TikTok, this rural school teacher in Kunak, Sabah, shared a story of how he helped this student get new shoes for school.

In @cikgujumat’s video, the story began when he was on duty welcoming kids to school.

He shared, “As usual, it was my turn this week to be on duty, welcoming students through the school gates.”

“From far I can see this student wearing very dirty shoes to school. So I asked him, why didn’t you wash your shoes?”

This was the student’s answer.

“If I washed my shoes, the sole of my shoes would fall off and I can’t wear them anymore,” said the student.

As he lifted the shoe, he noticed that the sole was severely worn out and the shoe had holes in it.

When asked why didn’t he buy new shoes, the student answered that he had no money to buy new ones.

“This answer stumped me into silence. Sihar and I brought him to a shop near Kunak to buy him his shoes.”

“He told me that this was only his second time traveling to Kunak. When all was done, I told him to study hard and change his fate,” he shared.

“If you make it, you can help more people in the future,” he added.

We sincerely hope that more stories like this will surface in the future, to show how dedicated our educators are to changing the lives of the students they teach. Terima kasih cikgu!
