In 2014, a study by the University of Michigan reported that Malaysia is among the top 25 most dangerous countries for road users, with 30 fatalities per 100,000 individuals.
And we surely know why.
Poorly maintained roads, human errors and many more have led to the high ranking we now dwell in.
Wanting to lessen accidents, netizens have stepped up to the plate warning other road users to be wary of accident-prone areas especially in and around the Klang Valley. One of those individuals is Amanda Sue who told drivers to be careful when driving on the MEX highway.
In her Facebook status, she advises users to drive slowly especially when heading towards KL from the Kuchai Lama exit (KM 6.9).
“There have been more than 10 cars spinning out of a sudden and hit the road barriers, within a week’s time.”
Advising members of the public to be careful the next time they frequent the area, MEX have also carried out their investigation on the matter.
“Several vehicles in the mentioned area, lose control of their vehicle and have hit the barriers on a road section where the speed limit was set at 60km/h.”
“A lot of the accidents that took place was due to the fact that drivers ignored the set speed limit.”
“Most of the cases have also taken place in wet conditions, whereby poorly maintained vehicles and failure of their tyres to grip the road contribute to the failure of keeping the vehicle under control.”
To help improve the situation MEX will be taking extra steps to aid vehicles.
“MEX will take additional precautionary measures such as the installation of signages and speed breakers to help ease vehicles into the junction.”
We advise members of the public to be safe on the road and to observe precautions put in place to lessen the likeliness of accidents from occurring.
