As the struggles of daily life becomes heavier and more frequent, it sometimes helps to have a little fun and blow off some steam. Another solution to letting go of the stress of the work week is to remember how blessed we are with the necessities we have and give back to those who may not be as fortunate.
But why not put both of those together with community events that foster merriment and humanity?
So, if you’re free these coming weekends, here are just some socially responsible and spirit-lifting events you can take part in. Oh, and don’t forget to spread the love by also bringing along your friends and family!
BERJALAN TEGUH BERSAMA
We know 6:30am may be a little too early in a lot of books, but with the smog and soot of living in the city, a little early morning dewy-fresh air wouldn’t hurt. You know what else won’t hurt? A little walking.
Taking place tomorrow morning (July 30), the BERJALAN TEGUH BERSAMA will kick off the launch of the Bulan Kebangsaan, or National Month; with a 2.7km leisurely walk through Putrajaya along to the lively performances of the Kumpulan Bah Bola, who make up of those from the Suku Semai community.
The event also boasts a colouring competition and a blood donation drive, because we need to help stock up on blood supply to help our fellow Malaysians! There’s also going to be food trucks, free gifts and health screenings.
There’s no pre-registration for this event, so you can show up at Dataran Putra in the morning and have yourselves and your loved ones registered at the location.
T.A.S.K BAZAAR & K-OPEN MIKE
Once you’re done with your leisurely walk, why not sing some songs and try out cuisines (Syrian, Pakistani and Burmese) you’ve never had before?
Happening also tomorrow, July 30, Amazing Seniors and The Assembly Soup Kitchen (TASK) are having a joint charity event to give people from multiple communities the opportunity to showcase their products and earn additional incomes with a bazaar!
In line with the aim of empowering those from all walks of life, the vendors comprise of refugees, social entrepreneurs and indigenous community members who have honed their skills in baking, cooking, weaving and more.
To further liven up the affair, Amazing Seniors will also be running a Karaoke Open Mike session! Taking place at TASK’s homebase in Shah Alam, the fun starts at 10am. Reach out here for signs up or further information.
FUN WITH TREFOIL GUILD
Grab your friends and family, because next Sunday (August 7) is going to be a fun-filled fiesta full of good vibes, games and giving back.
Trefoil Guild KL is holding a carnival in the center of the city, in a heartfelt effort to raise funds for underprivileged Girl Guides, so that they too can give back to the people in need. They also have special guests joining the bash, coming from multiple orphanages, to enjoy the sunshine and celebrations.
Come join in as they’ll have games from carnival booths to Nerf session, a bouncy castle, picnic and painting, food trucks and even a virtual pet adoption drive, to help independent animal rescuers to find forever homes for loving cats and dogs.
Some of the vendors who will be present to take part in the festivities are among those who have received aid from Trefoil Guild KL and Girl Guide Malaysia, and are now taking the opportunity to pay it forward! So, why not be a part of the cycle of kindness and compassion?
Come on down to the Persatuan Pandu Puteri in Brickfields from 10am onwards and if you’re interested in shooting up your loved ones in a Nerf war, sign up here! And in the event that you cannot make it to festivities, contributions goes a long way in assisting with their humanitarian work!
So, don’t hesitate and celebrate life in the best way possible, by uplifting our fellow community members while soaking up the good times.
We’ll see you guys there!
