Graduating from university is what every parent hopes for their children. Knowing that their kids’ future is on the right track brings them a sense of relief.
At least that’s what HR Minister Steven Sim believes, as he goes the extra mile to support a family in need by helping a girl named Dharsini pursue her dream of studying at a university.
Sim visited a family in Penang
@stevensimck shared a video on his TikTok of his recent visit to Dharsini’s humble home, where he met her and her mother in Bukit Mertajam, Penang.
In the video, he asks Dharsini’s mother about her eyesight. She explains that she’s completely blind in her right eye, while her left eye still has some vision, though it’s blurry and grey.
“I will take care of her until she graduates”
As the only child living with her mother, Sim explained how Dharsini had initially decided to forgo her studies to focus on caring for her mom, especially after her father’s passing.
“I told Dharsini that while her intentions are pure, she still needs to pursue her studies. But she shared with me that the cost, around RM30,000, was something she didn’t want to burden her mom with,” Sim explained to Dharsini’s mother.
Dharsini’s mom shared her concerns, saying that if something were to happen to her, Dharsini would have no one else to rely on. However, Sim reassured her, promising that Dharsini would be looked after until she graduates and that he would treat her as if she were his own daughter.
She aspires to study software engineering
Sim continued to reassure Dharsini’s mother, promising to cover the costs of her university education and encouraging Dharsini to focus on her studies until she graduates.
“I will take care of all her university fees until she finishes. And once she graduates, you won’t have anything left to worry about.”
Dharsini, who expressed her desire to study software engineering, was then asked by Sim to fill out a form so he could assist her with the university application process.
Sim isn’t just helping Dharsini with her education, he also mentioned that he has included her in his anak angkat program, where she will receive a monthly allowance until she graduates from university.
