Previously, a man made the difficult decision to leave his three children at an orphanage in Teluk Intan, Perak, after struggling to make ends meet on his RM2,600 monthly income as a lorry driver.

Since divorcing his Vietnamese wife in May, he has been solely caring for his children, aged between five and nine.

“We want to help our father and ease his burden”

The man eventually placed his children at Jaz Home to make sure they were properly cared for.

One of the children said that being placed in the orphanage made her and her siblings feel grateful rather than sad. They have also promised to study hard all the way to university so they can one day repay their father’s sacrifices, according to Kosmo!.

“Here, we’ve made new friends and can do activities like studying together. The most important thing is that my two siblings and I are not separated. When we grow up, we want to help our father and ease his burden. That’s why we want to study hard, go to university, and get good jobs,” said 9-year-old Xuan.

Jaz Home Orphanage Secretary, Tan Meng Wah AMN, said the children had previously been at another care centre in Kuala Lumpur, but the fees were too high.

“So their father decided to bring them here and leave them in our care. He even brought their clothes and schoolbooks. In Kuala Lumpur, their well-being was affected because their father couldn’t cover daily expenses. In the mornings, they only had coffee; lunch was just bread; and they only got rice at night,” he explained.

His ex-wife allegedly harassed him over custody

As previously reported, the man and his Vietnamese wife decided to call it quits in 2024 due to constant disagreements. The court later approved the divorce and granted him custody of their three children.

“At that time, I was working as a construction worker in Teluk Intan. My ex-wife wanted our youngest son, while I wanted our two daughters. The court approved my request and gave me all three children,” he said.

Unhappy with the decision, his ex-wife and her family allegedly harassed him, prompting him to file a police report. Authorities then issued warnings and a summons.
