Oyens have never failed to amuse us with their cuteness and wittiness. They have even gained a notorious reputation and are known for the chaos that they often bring along.
Although most of us love and adore them, there are people who are genuinely afraid and not fond of cats.
This phobia is known as “ailurophobia” and is described as one’s immense fear towards cats to the extent of having panic attacks and anxiety from just being around or even thinking about cats!
Recently, a TikTok video featuring a woman who was scared of cats was posted by @tasyapunyerrr on 12 October. The video displayed how the lady was screaming non-stop and was even shown trying to run away because her friend had carried and teased her with an Oyen.
The caption of the video reads, “Friend who is scared of cats be like.”
Netizens divided over the video
After seeing the video, some users found it funny, whilst others saw the immense fear shown by the lady which led the video to receive backlash from its viewers.
“It’s not funny and this can be trauma.”
One user expressed their frustration, saying that if the person holding the cat knows that the person is afraid of cats, then she should not tease them like that.
They further added that they understood what the person in the video feels because they are also afraid of cats.
Another user commented, “Can people not do this even though they may be close to one another?”
One user stated that we should not make light of ailurophobia and shared their similar experience where one time during recess, a friend had suddenly placed a cat on their lap as a joke. The ‘unforgivable’ joke led to hot soup being spilt all over their lap which caused a huge mess.
“Sorry, if someone did this to me I will be traumatised for at least a week or even more. I swear.”
Another user explained how a male friend of theirs ended up with a fever because they had placed a kitten on his table as a joke. The consequences of their action led to them not talking to each other for a very long time.
Tasya, who posted the video explained that she did not expect to receive any backlash as the video had already been posted before when her TikTok profile used to be private.
For her, it was just for laughs, and she clarified that even her friend who was scared of the Oyen was fine with them teasing her like that.
