The United States (US) Navy has confirmed that its fighter jet and helicopter crashed in the South China Sea on Sunday (26 October) in separate incidents.
The incidents took place while US President Donald Trump was in Malaysia for the 47th ASEAN Summit.

Two US Navy aircraft crashed in the South China Sea
The US Pacific Fleet was quoted by CBS News as saying that in the first incident, an MH-60R Sea Hawk helicopter crashed around 2:45 PM local time while “conducting routine operations”.
The aircraft was assigned to the Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron 73 “Battle Cats” and all 3 crew members were rescued.
Some 30 minutes later, an F/A-18F Super Hornet fighter also crashed while conducting routine operations, the fleet said.
The aircraft was from the Strike Fighter Squadron 22 “Fighting Redcocks” and its 2 crew members ejected and were rescued by search and rescue teams from Carrier Strike Group 11.
The Pacific Fleet added that all crew members were in stable condition and that the causes of the crashes are under investigation.
