As the movement control order (MCO) has entered its third phase, many events are expected to be cancelled or postponed. These include some of the major school examinations in the country.

According to MalaysiaKini, the UPSR examinations are expected to be pushed to the beginning of December 2020 while the PT3 examinations will be pushed to the end of December 2020.

Meanwhile, Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM) and the third-semester of STPM examinations are expected to be postponed to January and February next year.

“The Education Ministry will be meeting to finalise the dates for the examinations and an announcement is expected to be made by the minister in the near future,” the Ministry of Education told MalaysiaKini.

“The postponements are necessary due to the extension of the movement control order MCO) and the government’s decision not to restart school sessions immediately after the MCO ends.”

The Ministry of Education had earlier announced on 28 March that the written portion of the SPM, originally in two phases, will now be held in one phase from 16 November to 7 December.

Originally, the first phase was to start on 5 to 14 October, while the second phase would have been from 2 to 19 November.

Besides the SPM examination, the UPSR, STPM and STAM examinations will also be given new dates.

Deputy Education Ministers Mah Hang Soon and Muslimin Yahaya, when contacted about the postponements, said to wait for the official announcement.
