During a sit-down with US President Donald Trump at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim didn’t hold back in showing support for Trump’s proposed roadmap to end the conflict in Gaza.
“On Gaza, we welcome your comprehensive plan to end the conflict. This provides the world with a glimmer of hope, even in the most complicated of situations,” Anwar said, speaking at the bilateral meeting held on the sidelines of the 47th ASEAN Summit.

He added, “Diplomacy and determination will ultimately prevail. And we believe that, under your leadership, Mr President, we will achieve a just and lasting peace.”
Trump’s plan, which had been unveiled earlier in Washington, laid out a 20-point framework that included calls for Hamas to disarm, release hostages, and step away from governing Gaza.
While some progress had been made, hostages were returned and remains recovered, key parts of the plan remained unresolved, especially Hamas’ control over the territory.
ASEAN and US ties on the rise
Anwar’s remarks came as ASEAN leaders gathered to discuss regional and global issues, with the US playing a more active role in peace-building efforts.
The meeting also coincided with the signing of the Kuala Lumpur Peace Accord between Cambodia and Thailand, a move that Anwar praised as a milestone in regional diplomacy.
