Among the things that foreign, non-Muslim tourists can enjoy in Malaysia is our vibrant nightlife, especially in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.

Though, we can’t exactly guarantee that they’re going to find the same things they can find in their home countries.

UK tourist, Tom Birchy, recently took to his TikTok page to share his disbelief that he couldn’t find his favourite cocktail, the Aperol Spritz, in Malaysia despite doing from bar to bar in Changkat. He was then apparently informed that the drink is banned in Malaysia.

Aperol 5

Tom Birchy wrote, “Aperol Spritz is illegal in Malaysia.”

In his video, Tom explained that he went through all the bars in Changkat to find an Aperol Spritz, only to be left disappointed.

“No, I’m not joking. I’ve literally walked down every single bar in this street, asking for an Aperol Spritz. And finally, we’ve come to a high-class establishment that you would think, 100%, has Aperol Spritz. But, no,” he said.

Aperol 6

It was apparently at one of the last bars that he checked out, where he was told that Aperol is banned in Malaysia.

“And it was here, at this bar, when I said to the gentleman ‘do you have Aperol Spritz?‘ and he said ‘Aperol is banned in Malaysia because the government of Malaysia has declared it a health hazard‘,”

“So, this is one for everyone who drinks Aperol Spritz, including myself, the government of Malaysia has declared our favourite drink a health hazard. I believe it has something to do with the dye and something to do with the sugar levels. But, Aperol Spritz is not allowed in the country of Malaysia. How crazy is that?” he explained.

Aperol 8

He then approaches his partner, Ellie, who was researching the alleged Aperol Spritz ban in Malaysia on her phone.

“Apparently, it’s because it causes cancer from the dye. That’s what I’m reading up about,” she says before the video ends.

Aperol 9

Sure or not?

Though, many have contradicted the notion the drink is banned in Malaysia, especially considering they’ve apparently had it in Malaysia themselves.

What do you think? Is Aperol Spritz really banned in Malaysia or is someone trying to pull our legs?

Do feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.
