When you think of the police riding in to save you from a criminal, you would always imagine them in a patrol car or on police bikes.

But can you imagine a police officer rolling up in a tuk tuk to save you from a snatch thief or mugger?

Based on a report by Express, the Gwent police in Wales now has a fleet of tuk tuks to help them patrol areas such as public parks and walkways and to prevent crime.

Chief Inspector Damien Sowrey shared that this initiative has made parents and women feel safer, especially at night.

“The feedback was overwhelmingly positive with parents telling officers that they would feel safer knowing that there was support for young people out at night, and from women who could think of an occasion when the tuk tuk would have been a welcome sight,” he said.

Despite all that, locals in the area were not exactly impressed with the tuk tuks and made fun of it, pointing out that chasing perpetrators in a tuk tuk can be considerably slow.

And while a tuk tuk driving police officer might sound ridiculous, it’s the presence of security especially for those who have to walk alone at night is what truly matters.

We know for a fact that we will feel safer walking at night if there were officers in tuk tuks around every corner.

Wouldn’t you?
