UiTM Ranks 1st in Malaysia, 10th Best in Asia for its Public Relations Programme

Universiti Teknologi Mara’s (UiTM) Public Relations programme has been named the best in Malaysia and 10th in Asia by EduRank, a global independent metric-based ranking which ranks 14,131 tertiary education institutions from 183 countries worldwide.

One of the first pioneering programmes offered by UiTM’s Faculty of Communications and Media Studies, it was also ranked the 3rd best in Southeast Asia within the Communications and Public Relations category behind the National University of Singapore (NUS) and Nanyang Technological University. Overall, the programme is ranked 274th globally.

The top 10 rankings in Asia under the aforementioned category are as follows:

  1. National University of Singapore, Singapore
  2. Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong
  3. Education University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong
  4. Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong
  5. Nanyang Technological University, Singapore
  6. City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong
  7. University of Haifa, Israel
  8. Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel
  9. Tel Aviv University, Israel
  10. Universiti Teknologi Mara, Malaysia

Meanwhile, at the national level, UiTM’s Public Relations programme is by far the leading programme among Malaysian tertiary education institutions, with the Universiti Malaya’s (UM) offering coming second in our country, but 327th globally, 53 places behind UiTM’s.

The top 10 Public Relations programmes offered in Malaysia as per EduRank’s rankings are as below:

  1. Universiti Teknologi Mara (274th globally)
  2. Universiti Malaya (327th globally)
  3. Universiti Sains Malaysia (353rd globally)
  4. Universiti Utara Malaysia (370th globally)
  5. Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (382nd globally)
  6. Taylor’s University (424th globally)
  7. Universiti Putra Malaysia (452nd globally)
  8. Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (469th globally)
  9. Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia (496th globally)
  10. Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (1045th globally)

 

Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Head of UiTM’s Public Relations Programme Meliena Mahpuz, who shared the achievement on Facebook said that the university’s Faculty of Communications and Multimedia Studies is actually Malaysia’s first full-fledged School of Communications.

Furthermore, despite the Public Relations programme being established back in 1972, it’s still standing strong and ever-ready to improve its curriculum and academic credentials to suit the current needs as well as ensure its graduates are of top quality.

She further asserted,

“We are proud to be ranked 1st in Malaysia and 10th in Asia. Rankings are built over time and we sincerely owe all this to past academicians and management who have paved the way for the many great achievements we have now.

“Moving forward, we strive to be even better, echoing UiTM’s vision to be a Globally Recognised University. Thank you to lecturers, students and alumni.  This is indeed a collective achievement.”
