This is such an amazing achievement by our fellow Malaysian students!

According to the New Straits Times, the Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) choir teams have just won three gold medals at the “Per Musicam ad Astra” 7th International Copernicus Choir Festival & Competition in Poland! The two teams sent to the competition were UiTM Chamber Choir (UCC) and UiTM Women’s Chorale (UCS).

UiTM Vice-Chancellor Prof Emeritus Dr. Mohd Azraai Kassim stated that the choir team won all of the three categories that they participated in. The categories were Mixed Choir and Folklore which was won by UCC, and Female Choir which was won by UCS. Amazing!

On top of that, they also won two special awards; the Special Audience Prize and the Grand Prix of All Volunteers awards!

The Special Audience Prize was received when a group photo of the UiTM choir team managed to garner over 7,500 likes via online polls on Facebook. The Grand Prix of All Volunteers special awards, on the other hand, is a result of a poll of the volunteers’ who handled the program.

The competition was held from 29th June to 3rd July in Poland with the participation of 52 choir groups from all over the world. Out of these 52 teams, only 12 managed to get into the finals, which were Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, Taiwan, the Philippines, Indonesia, South Africa and also Malaysia.

The UCC performed three songs at the Friendship Concert and contended 11 songs (both local and international) during the whole competition.
