UPDATE: The District Police Chief of Kerian Perak has come forward with a statement saying that allegations that the two teenagers were given compound fines for pulling their masks down to drink in Taman Wawasan, Parit Buntar are not true.
He clarified that “the teenagers were fined not just because they weren’t wearing face masks but also because they failed to practice physical distancing of at least one meter when patrolling officers were observing them for 10 minutes during the operation to reprimand SOP violators in Parit Buntar.”
Previously, it was alleged that two motorcyclists were fined RM1,000 each for pulling down their masks while having a drink at Kerian District, Parit Buntar, Perak.
According to Sin Chew Daily, the two individuals had ridden their motorcycles to send some of their friends to a shopping mall and were waiting by the road opposite the mall.
While they were waiting, they bought two cups of beverages and pulled their masks to their chins. As they were placing they cups into the motorcycle basket, they did not pull up their masks in time before three people suddenly came up to them and accused them of not wearing their masks.
Two of the men are believed to be plainclothes officers as they did not have a uniform on. But they indicated that they were policemen and ordered the two motorcyclists to get in the car and head to the Kerian District police headquarters.
The two motorcyclists were then issued fines of RM1,000 each.
