The Halal certificates of two 5-star hotels in Melaka have been revoked following ‘alcohol parties’ organised at their premises recently.
According to a report by Harian Metro, stern action was taken after a raid by the Enforcement Division of the Melaka Islamic Religious Department (JAIM) took place following complaints from the public.

The state Education, Higher Education and Religious Affairs EXCO, Datuk Rahmad Mariman, said that, during the raid, his team found that the organisers were using equipment from the Halal-certified kitchens.
“During the inspections, the parties were underway, and it was found that liquor containers were mixed with kitchen utensils that had been certified Halal. The hotels also admitted to the mistake, and we are taking firm action to immediately withdraw the Halal certificates that were issued 5 years ago,” he said.
Can they get their Halal certificates back?

The two hotels have since been given three months to reapply for their Halal certification. During this period, if JAIM is satisfied with the efforts made by the hotels, their Halal certificates can be reinstated provided they meet all the conditions set and do not repeat the same offences.
“However, as of today, they have not re-applied (for their Halal certificates) and JAIM will continue monitoring to ensure that no similar offences are committed by the 30 other hotels that have Halal certificates,”
“Moreover, at a state-government level, we will not organise any programmes at hotels that do not have Halal certificates, until they regain those certificates,” he added.
