Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has shown positive signs in his recovery process.
22 days after being admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) in Kuala Lumpur, the former Prime Minister made his first public appearance today (27 January) at a coffee house in Pavilion Damansara Heights, Kuala Lumpur.

This was confirmed by his aide, Sufi Yusoff, who revealed that Tun Mahathir went out for coffee at the shopping mall today. The former Prime Minister was seen in a wheelchair, with several officers and security escorts surrounding him to ensure his comfort and safety.
However, he is not yet allowed to go home and is still receiving treatment at IJN
“He’s not allowed to go home and only went out for a short while to enjoy coffee,” Sufi said, as quoted by Malaysia Gazette.
Tun Mahathir, who celebrated his 100th birthday in July last year, was rushed to the hospital on 6 January after suffering a fall at his residence. The fall fractured his right hip, but due to his age, the doctors and specialists did not recommend surgery.

Since then, he has been receiving non-surgical physiotherapy treatment, and fortunately, it has shown positive progress. The recovery process, however, is expected to take a long time.
As of now, only family members and close relatives are allowed to visit Tun Mahathir at the hospital to allow him space and time for recovery, as mentioned in Sufi’s official statement on 20 January.
Last year, the former Prime Minister was also admitted to the hospital due to fatigue after driving to Putrajaya park for a potluck event, where he also cycled. He was discharged on the same evening.
We wish Tun Mahathir a speedy recovery.
