Tun Mahathir Suffers Hip Fracture After Falling at Home, to Undergo Weeks of Treatment at IJN

Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has fractured his right hip after suffering a fall at his residence this morning (6 January).

His press secretary, Sufi Yusoff, confirmed the injury this evening following a medical evaluation at the National Heart Institute (IJN).

Tun Mahathir will need to undergo several weeks of hospital treatment

Sufi stated that the former Prime Minister is expected to be in the hospital for the next few weeks for treatment and observation. According to Astro Awani and TV Al-Hijrah, he reportedly fell while moving from his balcony to the living room.

Sufi added that Tun Mahathir, now 100 years old, fell at his residence around 7:30 AM today and was admitted approximately two hours later.

At the time of writing, the former Prime Minister has yet to release a statement regarding his condition.
