You have probably heard of your friends using dating apps such as Tinder and Bumble ranting about the guy they have a crush on for not texting them back. Or closer to home, perhaps you have had your own experiences of being ‘single and ready to mingle’ and the struggles of finding the right one.
But those apps, are so yesterday!
Nowadays, other social media apps, such as Twitter, have stepped up their game to be a platform that enables people to meet and chat with potential partners.
And strangely, Malaysians are also embracing this new idea of going on to Twitter to find love.
Launched in 2018, @TwtJodohMY has gradually grown to become the go-to account for many Malaysians looking to find partners or “cari jodoh” through Twitter.
Here are three successful love matches that have created meaningful lifetime bonds through the service.
Nureen and Najmudin
From university crush to life partner, Nureen had no idea that Najmudin would be the man she would marry when she used to admire him from afar as he went on his jogs.
However, God works in mysterious ways, and it was a comment Nureen made on one of @TwtJodohMY’s tweets that caught the eye of her now-husband, prompting him to follow her account.
“It was unbelievable that I got to reconnect with my old crush on Twitter. During our uni days, we’ve never once seen or spoken to each other,” she says.
“There was a time where I prayed that if Najmudin is truly my fated partner, I hope that God would allow us to meet again in the future.”
After several exchanges of Direct Messages, the couple decided to get engaged and tied the knot six months later.
Fakhira and Syahmi
If you thought Nureen and Najmudin’s story was cute, Fakhira and Syahmi’s one go even further back.
The couple had actually met each other in 2011 during an event at Syahmi’s school.
“I remembered not being able to take my eyes off her at the time, developing a temporary crush.”
Fast forward 11 years later, the duo reconnected online and got married not long after.
\
“Destiny paved the way for us to meet again. We got married 11 years after our first encounter!” an excited Syahmi shares.
However, the couple’s unity was not without effort. Fakhira is proof that sometimes, being a little extra is worth it.
It all started when @TwtJodohMY shared a tweet Syahmi wrote about himself and what he is looking for in a partner.
Instead of liking his post, Fakhira went the extra mile by replying to Syahmi’s post saying that she loves to sing, a trait that Syahmi likes.
Fakhira’s initiative and enthusiasm were what ultimately caught the young man’s eye.
“Be creative in your own way, try to come up with your own way to greet people, and never treat someone the way you do not want to be treated.”
“Twitter opens up a lot of possibilities and potential compatibilities that might not even be an available option if you are shy IRL (in real life),” he said before concluding that finding your true love requires maximum effort.
Haslinda and Zarrul
For this couple, “Assalammualaikum, Bismillah” was THE perfect opening line.
“Our cute meet happened the second day after I posted on @TwtJodohMY. My now-husband Direct Messaged me at 1am in the morning and simply said, ‘Assalammualaikum, Bismillah’.
I was still awake at the time, so I ‘teased’ him by replying ‘Waalaikumsalam, Sadaqallah’ just to see if he’s the type of guy who gets triggered easily,” Haslinda (@hslndhmdn) said jokingly.
The self-proclaimed goofball also said that their most romantic moment on Twitter was when Haslinda’s husband told her honestly about how much his salary was!
Even someone as upbeat as Haslinda has tried and failed in her attempts at finding the right partner before.
“I’m done meeting suitors who only wanted to test their marketability and played around. I was inspired to go on @TwtJodohMY after seeing so many success stories. There are so many open-minded people on Twitter, so I guess that’s why my husband could find me so easily?”
Haslinda also expressed how lucky she felt that she was able to find her soulmate on Twitter. But not everyone will have the same outcome. “Whatever it is, just try and do the best you can. It never hurts to try.”
Love knows no age
And now, here comes the special surprise for the single dads out there: dutiful daughter Raa (@qtpieyra_) is helping her single, awet muda (youthful)-looking mom to find the right partner to spend the rest of her life with through @TwtJodohMY.
So, if you’re a single dad or if YOUR dad is single, what are you waiting for?
How to use @TwtJodohMY
“Finding a partner is not as easy as you think. @TwtJodohMY’s role is only 10%; the rest depends on the candidates themselves,” explained the founder of the account.
Malaysians who would like to participate in looking for love through @TwtJodohMY will have to Tweet their personal details, share the criteria of the partners they desire, use a photo of themselves, and tag @TwtJodohMY account.
After Tweeting it, they have to send a Direct Message (DM) to @TwtJodohMY. Once they fulfil the previously mentioned requirements, their Tweet will be Retweeted.
Through this unique match-making experience by @TwtJodohMY, we hope you succeed in finding your life partner.
When you Tweet for love… you might just find it!
