Isn’t this what being Malaysian is all about?
In a recent Facebook post, the Federal Territories Mufti Datuk Seri Dr Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri personally went door to door bringing cakes as gifts for his Chinese neighbours in conjunction with the Lunar New Year. In fact, based on his post, he alluded to this being something of a tradition that he does every year during CNY.
“Maybe this is just a small annual gift, but I really hope it can contribute to the harmony of multiracial Malaysia,”

He further added that living religiously in a diverse society made out of different religions and races is beautiful and easy if we understand the religion. Taking an example from the life of Prophet Muhammad, Dr Zulkifli stressed that,
“The walls of race and religion can be cast aside through politeness and moral values.”

Dr Zulkifli then urges everyone to go back to the fundamentals of Malaysian society and how we are all one big family. For all his Muslim followers he ended the post by saying,
“Show the beauty of Islam, spread the spirit of unity,”

The sincerity of Dr Zulkifli’s post warmed the hearts of netizens with many applauding such efforts by someone who holds a high position in the country. The same post was also shared by the Federal Territories Mufti via Twitter and here are a few wholesome replies by netizens for the Mufti:
From all the tweet replies, here are a few that caught our attention:
“Thank you Dr, I hope many will follow your lead! Small steps (like delivering cakes on celebration days) are big changes. It soothes my soul seeing people regardless of race doing something like this.”
“A good example!”
“Thank you Dr, hopefully we Malaysians remain harmonious and united despite our diverse backgrounds.”
Seeing all these replies make us proud of being Malaysian! Kudos to the Federal Territories Mufti Datuk Seri Dr Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri and hopefully everyone will follow his example in the future. Living harmoniously with mutual respect for each other; that is what being Malaysian is all about.
