Everyone’s doing their part in battling the Covid-19 outbreak, including most of us who are staying home to flatten the curve while our brave frontliners are facing the pandemic head-on.
It’s disheartening to see however, that our frontliners are running out of their basic supplies such as gloves, masks, hand sanitisers and even PPE (Personal Protective Equipment). Some medical professionals have even resorted to making their own PPE to protect themselves.
Eager to help them, Malaysian fashion designer, Datuk Radzuan Radziwill has decided to help our frontliners in his own way. The prominent fashion designer has started a charity project to sew PPEs for nurses and frontliners after seeing their struggles of having to prepare their own outfits.
Radzuan told Berita Harian that ever since the Movement Control Order began, he’s able to make 50 PPEs with the help of his friend who’s a doctor in Hospital Serdang. His friend provides the measurements, materials and the supplier’s information while he sews the PPEs together.
Until now, he’s made over 200 pairs and aims to make 1,000 to 2,000 more pairs of outer layers, headgears and headcovers.
“I hope other fashion designers or even anyone else can help to sew the PPEs as I’ve been told that about 400 pairs of disposable PPEs are used daily in Hospital Serdang and Hospital Sungai Buloh.”
Redzuan added that it’s sad to see nurses having to sew the suits themselves despite not having enough rest and despite it not being their jobs in the first place.
“What’s wrong if I use my talents to help them?” he said.
He again urged designers and tailors to help his mission to help sew the suits so that more can be made. His aim is to provide more hospitals with more suits if more people join him.
Kudos to Datuk Radzuan Radziwill for helping in whatever way he can to ease the burden on our frontliners. We hope more people will come forward to lend their contribution in whatever ways they can. If you think you’re not contributing in any way, you’re already helping by simply staying at home!
