We all know that our Prime Minister Tun Mahathir is one of the most universally liked men in Malaysia, given all that he has done to modernise the country and take it to newer heights. Without him, much of what we have today would simply cease to be! Thank you, Tun!

But when you think you’ve heard all there is to Tun Mahathir’s virtues, this story might just give you even more reason to adore our PM! In a story published by The Star, a 91-year-old woman received the birthday gift of a lifetime last Saturday (14th September 2019).

Previously featured in an article published by the daily paper where she expressed her desire to meet the Prime Minister on her birthday, 91-year-old Tan Bee Joo probably did not expect to wind up with something quite so memorable on her special day. In order to turn her wish into reality, members of The Star reached out to the Prime Minister’s press secretary, Endie Shazlie Akbar, who helped arrange for Tun Mahathir himself to write and sign a letter wishing Tan a happy birthday!

The letter was hand-delivered to her home, which read:

“I would like to extend my heartiest wishes to you and many happy returns on your 91st birthday. May it bring all the good luck, good health and prosperity to you and your family.”, ending with a signature from Tun M himself!

Beaming with the letter in hand, Tan said that it was truly a birthday gift of a lifetime.

“Tun M made my 91st birthday feel so special because a letter from him is indeed priceless. Throughout my life, I’ve received many gifts. But this one letter is the best gift of all, ” she added.

We don’t blame her for looking so happy, because that’s truly a gift worth a thousand smiles over! Happy belated birthday Ms Tan!
