Once an unheard-of concept, cultured meat or lab-grown meat, which is meat without the slaughter of an animal have passed a safety review by the Singapore Food Agency has just received the green light!
The chicken bites produced by Eat Just, among the many firms involved in cultivating chicken, beef and pork, is aimed at slashing the impact of industrial livestock production.
How do they produce it?
According to The Guardian, Eat Just’s products are grown in a 1,200-litre bioreactor and is then combined with plant-based ingredients.
They cited that initial availability will be limited and will be sold in a restaurant in Singapore. Though significantly more expensive in the beginning, Eat Just explained that once production is scaled up the product will be cheaper.
To further ‘invite’ people to eat less meat or switch from real meat to lab-grown ones, scientific studies show that people are eating more meat than what is healthy for them or the planet.
Cutting meat consumption is seen by some scientists as the best single environmental action a person can take.
