Most people have ONE hobby they’re willing to spend a limitless amount of money on. Regardless of whether it’s a collection of rare Pokémon cards or vinyl records of your favourite bands, no price is too high for these special collector items.
For 31-year-old lecturer, Muhamad Asyraf, that hobby is collecting superhero merchandise-or to be exact, Kamen Rider belts. “Honestly, my interest in superheroes started when I was seven-years-old but I only started my collection when I entered high school and university,” said the dedicated fan to Harian Metro.
As of right now, Muhamad Asyraf said he has 57 units of Kamen Rider belts, ranging from editions released in 2000 all the way up to this year, 2020. He has currently spent nearly RM40,000 to fulfill his collection.
He added that he is willing to spend up to RM5,000 on one belt to achieve his dream of expanding his array of belts.
“When I started working, a large majority of my belt collection was bought online and shipped directly from Japan,” said the loyal collector. “It’s so satisfying when you place an order, even though the price is expensive. But for this hobby, I am willing to spend,” he added. He prefers to buy these belts online because they’re usually cheaper in comparison to those sold in the local market.
Muhamad Asyraf said he also collects other superhero merchandise. “Aside from my Kamen rider collection, I also have a Power Rangers and Digimon collection. But it’s not as big or impressive as the Kamen Rider one.”
“Right now, I’m satisfied with all my collections. They are kept in three cupboards and amount to a total of RM55,000,” said the father of three.
The committed fan said he is extremely thankful for his wife, Nurullia Natasha Jamal, 31, for her support towards his hobby.
